An innovative initiative to provide relief to senior citizens and the disabled
Vashi: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has launched an innovative initiative called “Drive in Vaccination” to make it easier for the citizens of Navi Mumbai over the age of 45, especially senior citizens and the disabled, to get vaccinated.
With the expansion of Vaccination Centers by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, various facilities are being made available for the citizens to get vaccinated without any effort and “Drive in Vaccination” is a part of it. On the first day ( 5th May ) of “Drive in Vaccination” starting from 1 pm today, the citizens showed enthusiasm from the very beginning by showing their presence in their vehicles at Grand Central Mall in Seawood Nerul and Inorbit Mall in Vashi.
For proper planning, a token number was given to each vehicle at the entrance to the parking lot at both these places and the Aadhaar card of persons above 45 years of age was being registered by registering the vehicle according to the token number. After being vaccinated, they were stopped for half an hour for observation in a designated parking lot. Staff were deployed to monitor them during this half-hour observation period. The vaccinated person was also instructed to sound the horn in case of any problem.
On the first day of ( 5th May ) drive-in vaccination, Mr. Praveena Khatav at the Grand Central Mall as well as Shri. Narendra Sengar became the first vaccine beneficiary. Beneficiary citizens above 45 years of age have been vaccinated in the first 50 vehicles arriving at these two places. By 5 pm, 80 persons above 45 years of age have been vaccinated at Grand Central Mall and 66 persons have been vaccinated at Inorbit Mall.
Citizens expressed satisfaction over the provision of this facility as all the procedures like getting token number, registering for vaccination, getting vaccinated and waiting for half an hour for observation are done without getting out of their vehicle. Starting on 5th May, APMC Market also operates a special Covid Vaccination Center in Dana Bazar
In order not to cause any inconvenience to the citizens, Navi Mumbai municipal Commissioner Shri. Abhijeet Bangar is paying close attention to the entire vaccination process and this is being reviewed in the web communication of medical officers which takes place every evening. Considering the current severe summer and the upcoming monsoon season, various matters like setting up of sheds outside the vaccination centers, adequate seating arrangements and fan arrangements are also being reviewed.
At present, vaccination is being started at 28 places including 4 municipal hospitals, all 23 civic health centers, jumbo vaccination center at Vashi Sector 5 and from 5th May a special vaccination center has also been started at Danabazar in APMC market.
In addition, the number of vaccination centers is being increased to ensure that as many people as possible are vaccinated as soon as possible.
