The new variant of the coronavirus, N440K is spreading faster in Southern states of India. It has been revealed in the study of scientists of the Center for Cell and Molecular Biology (CCMB) of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The scientists have said that the situation needs to be closely monitored. CCMB Director Rakesh Mishra said that a study found that the new variant of the virus is spreading more in the states of South India. At an international webinar in Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. Balram Bhargava, Director General of ICMR, said that clinical trials in the country indicated that the indigenous coronavirus vaccine was effective against the new form of the virus found in Britain, South Africa and Brazil.
